Has the NYT’s Lost It?

Usually the NYTs is left of left in their opinions, views and editorials. But this front page admission that force might be working better than diplomacy in the Mideast mess would probably make even moderates shake in their army boots. Look, no one wants war or lives to needlessly be lost, but the use of force and/or the threat of force has it’s place in today’s menacing world of loonies. These “goodists” that I wrote about last week need to wake up and realize that we live in an evil world and the US has enemies. The US has also protected and fought for freedom around the globe. Even though we get little credit these days because apparently people have short memories of what it costs for freedom to sometimes be wrenched away from hateful dictators and political war mongers. We all need a refresher course in American History (preferably from a text book that was written in 1965)

Carrot Juice

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has just finished up talks with the Russian Foreign Minister and failed to get an agreement that would put more pressure on Tehran. You know, diplomacy, negotiations, talks, carrots for Russia to increase sanctions against Iran because of their nuclear ambitions. The highest Russian diplomat refused to take a harder stance labeling the actions against Iran “counterproductive.” Why? Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said they want to engage in additional diplomacy, negotiations, talks, and carrots for Iran to dispense with their production of nuclear weapons. Notice that the UN has passed sanctions against Iran for the past 3 years to no avail. Sound familiar? Remember Iraq? Remember the accusations against W that he rushed to war even though the UN had passed sanctions and chided Iraq for the past 13 years? Diplomacy and carrots is the cornerstone of the BO administration. I know its early in his administration and I truly hope that diplomacy and sanctions are effective but history demonstrates that strength through force is more effective to deter bad behavior.

Rejectionists

So apparently any time we disagree with the administration’s policies we’re called names. Oh, I’m sure there’s enough name calling on both sides, but we have to be able to disagree with the POTUS without being labeled racists, homophobes, right-wing kooks, and even Nazi’s (Nancy Pelosi called some of the “tea-party” gang Nazi’s). Eugene Robinson in his latest opinion column in the Washington Post now call those who disagree with Obama, “rejectionists.”

There are those of us who feel like the Nobel Peace Prize is now even more of a joke than before because the left leaning Norwegians and Scandinavians awarded their highest honor to a man who has done absolutely nothing to restore peace. Sure, he’s given apologetic speeches as he crisscrossed the globe and this soothes those who are jealous and hate the US. But where are the results? Where is the evidence that this kowtowing, blame US first attitude, accomplishes anything? Has Iran decided to halt their nuclear fission program as a result of Obama’s apology? What about North Korea? Al Quieda? The Taliban? What about the IOC (International Olympic Committee)? Nope. But he can give an articulate speech provided his teleprompter is in clear view and his Jeremiah Wright alter ego kicks in. Brett Stephens in his Wall Street Journal opinion piece points out that past Nobel peace award winners were what he refers to as “goodists.”

Who are the Goodists? They are the people who believe all conflict stems from avoidable misunderstanding. Who think that the world’s evils spring from technologies, systems, complexes (as in “military-industrial”) and everything else except from the hearts of men, where love abides. Who mistake wishes for possibilities. Who put a higher premium on their own moral intentions than on the efficacy of their actions. Who champion education as the solution, whatever the problem. Above all, the Goodists are the people who like to be seen to be good.

Goodists include the likes of Jimmy Carter, and others whose names you won’t recognize. Notables such as Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, Charles de Gaulle, General MacArthur, and Franklin Roosevelt were overlooked for the peace prize even though each one increased peace around the world; freeing Jews from the terror of Nazi-ism and concentration camps, tearing down the Iron Curtain, and keeping the flame alive in France.

These were the soldiers and statesmen who did more than anyone else to assure the survival of freedom in the 20th century yet never won the love and admiration of the Scandanavian Nobel decision makers.

Looking at it from this perspective, it makes perfect sense that Barack Hussein Obama was awarded the peace prize based on apologetic rhetoric and good intentions. I’m sure you’ve all heard of the southern cliche, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

OUR DEFENSE AGAINST SATAN

The devil . . . does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of lies

Satan’s power is in the lie. He has no power over you except what you given him when you believe his lies. You break his power when you expose the lie. Scripture says, “We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19).

How much deception is actually going on in Christians today I can only speculate. Many Christians I talk to struggle with oppressive thoughts, but they are afraid to tell anyone for fear that others will think they have a mental problem. Seldom do they realize that these distractions reflect the battle which is going on for their minds, even though Paul warned us: “The Spirit explicitly says that in latter times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons” (1 Timothy 4:1).

Since Satan’s primary weapon is the lie, your defense against him is the truth. Dealing with Satan is not a power encounter; it’s a truth encounter. When you expose Satan’s lie with God’s truth, his power is broken. That’s why Jesus said: “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). That’s why He prayed: “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. . . . Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:15, 17 NIV ). That’s why the first piece of armor Paul mentions for standing against the schemes of the devil is the belt of truth (Ephesians 6:14). Satan’s lie cannot withstand the truth any more than the darkness of night can withstand the light of the rising sun.

Prayer:
Lord, I seek Your boldness today to defeat the enemy’s lies in my life and in the lives of those around me.
